PreVision Design is seeking a tech-savvy, detail-oriented individual with 3D modeling experience as well Adobe InDesign to assist in the production of architectural shadow studies.
Production of shadow studies involves multiple tasks, including CAD data translation from GIS sources, 3D modeling, taking shading calculations using custom software plugins, generating graphics, and assembling all materials into final reports. An ideal candidate must be comfortable at times working on multiple projects simultaneously.
Job Requirements:
1. Strong computer skills in a PC environment. Candidate must have ability to quickly learn new programs and be able to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
2. Experience using 3D modeling software. Our office uses SketchUp (though we are exploring other platforms), but we have extended the functionality of the program through the use of 3rd party plugins and development of our proprietary programs. The modelling work involves relatively simple massing models so advanced modelling and rendering techniques are not required, however experience with effective file/layer management is critical as some of the models are very large.
3. Experience using Adobe InDesign for the production of final shadow study reports. Strong graphic design skills are a plus, however we have established templates for the final reports, so the ability to link text, images and graphics from external source files is really what’s needed.
4. Experience independently managing/performing work with direct accountability for outcome.
Additional qualifications of benefit:
1. Data modelling using Excel
2. Technical writing (sample requested)
3. Experience working with city agencies, in particular the San Francisco Planning Department
Compensation and nature of employment negotiable—full time, part time, or contract-based and/or working remotely is be possible depending on the skills and needs of the candidate.
