Chicago-based advisory firm specializing in public/private partnerships and community/economic development seeks an Associate to specialize in Community Development Finance assignments with a particular emphasis on New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs). The firm’s clients include major cities, non-profits, financial institutions and developers.

The firm provides a range of consulting services in the NMTC arena including:

• Preparation of competitive applications for submittal to US Treasury
• Reviewing potential projects that could benefit from NMTC financing
• Assisting potential borrowers such as health clinics, manufacturers, and developers in accessing NMTC financing
• Deal structuring and underwriting
• Transaction closing support
• Community impact assessment and ongoing research
• Asset management of existing NMTC loans
• Program compliance

Successful candidate will specialize in assignments related to NMTC and other community development finance tools. The selected candidate will gain exposure to a variety of high-impact community and economic development projects, deal structuring, and public private development finance.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, and/or a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning/Economic Development, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and professional experience will be considered, in particular for candidates who have substantive experience in such fields as real estate financial analysis, real estate development, tax credit finance, and/or accounting.

In addition, successful candidates will have:

• Exceptional quantitative analysis skills, particularly using Microsoft Excel
• Strong writing ability
• Strength in oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
• Detail orientation and accuracy
• Commitment to community revitalization, economic development, and sustainability

The firm supports the professional growth of its staff through training and involvement in and professional and trade organizations. Salaries and benefits are competitive, based on experience, and are augmented by performance-based bonus compensation. 2+ years of relevant professional experience is desirable.
