Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates seeks a highly organized, independent and motivated Intern for its San Francisco office. This is an outstanding opportunity for the right person to become involved in our practice, which is focused on multimodal transportation planning for livable communities. Our work emphasizes creative, innovative transit/transportation planning and community involvement, often within a wider set of goals such as economic development and reduced dependence on the private automobile. The emphasis of the work will be in general transportation planning.

Responsibilities

The Transportation Planning Intern is expected to:

Assist with data collection activities and analysis in the office and/or field
Collect, enter, tabulate and analyze demographic and performance data
Create maps and other illustrations using GIS and other graphic tools
Assist with the preparation of reports and written materials
Conduct research as needed to assist senior staff on projects
Assist with community outreach activities

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have completed a MA/MS in Urban or Transportation Planning or a related field. Candidates in their last year of study in a graduate planning program will also be considered. Solid experience with MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD and GIS is preferred. Above all, we are looking for someone who has a passion for sustainable transportation.

Internship Duration
Ideally, the internship would last from 6 to 12 months. Internships may lead to a permanent Associate Planner position at Nelson\Nygaard.

Salary and Benefits
Hours are flexible up to full time. Interns are paid $18/hour.
