Under general supervision, the Transportation Planner carries out ferry planning activities, manages environmental studies, regulatory permitting requirements, and environmental compliance programs. The Transportation Planner coordinates with partner agency professional staff and consultants to ensure the successful execution of transportation projects. The position requires substantial judgment and initiative for problem-solving and making recommendations related to various projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Utilize advanced transportation planning and statistical methods, modeling, and budgeting and financial analyses to analyze and make recommendations.
Manage and coordinate environmental planning, research, and analysis for proposed WETA projects, including the planning, design, and construction phases of capital projects, maintenance and operation of facilities, and issuance of permits.
Organize, prepare, and process environmental documents, monitoring and reporting plans, technical reports, and responses for transportation projects and plans.
Prepare necessary applications and acquire permits from regulatory government agencies in compliance with environmental regulations.
Communicate with cities, other local/regional agencies, and community groups regarding transportation issues.
Assist in the development of capital programs and grant applications for transportation funds.
Prepare public presentations, planning reports, and technical memoranda.
Perform related duties as required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be flexible and trainable with a strong work ethic and a passion for the field. The new Transportation Planner will be able to leverage their knowledge and abilities to effectively contribute to transportation planning projects, utilizing statistical methods to analyze complex data, and communicate findings and recommendations through written reports and presentations. Additionally, the candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships with various individuals and organizations involved in transportation planning processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to a four-year college degree in transportation planning, urban planning, or related field.

Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible planning experience.
(NOTE: A Master’s degree in transportation or urban planning or related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)

License(s) and Certificate(s):
Possession of a valid current California driver’s license and a safe driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
