The San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) is seeking a graduate student or recent graduate for a short-term consultancy that will inform a case study on gender, race and climate action in San Francisco. The ideal candidate has expertise in cities, gender, race, affordability, mobility and climate change solutions, and will collaborate with SF Environment staff to develop information that will be used in the case study which will be showcased at Governor Jerry Brown’s Fall 2018 Global Climate Summit to be held in SF.
This research is being supported by C40 Cities Women4Climate initiative led by C40 Chair and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, and is being coordinated by an academic team based out of the University College London. Other cities involved on developing case studies include London & Paris; Mexico City; Durban, S.A.; and Tokyo/Yokohama.

Possibilities for involvement by students and/or recent graduates include:

*Serve as a consultant immediately through the late Spring/early Summer, to gather information and data/analytics (particular emphasis on gender, race, affordability, transportation access and usage) to be used in a SF Case Study, due by June (writing would not need to be finalized; the UCL team has substantial resources in editing, finalization, visualization and layout).

Note that the analyses of existing research and data would be very welcome; particular interest in the challenges women face in choosing sustainable transportation modes, i.e., bike, walk and public transit.

*Support SF Environment staff in developing scope of work for additional data collection to be completed by a separate consultant, for example intercept surveys

*Participation in at least three consultation meetings to provide advice on research and data collection design and to review the findings of the data collection and/or research compilation.
