The Housing and Community Development Specialist I (HCDS I), for Fair Housing Tribal Affairs is responsible for supporting the California Indian Assistance Program (CIAP) team project management, procedure and implementation documentation, tribal outreach and engagement, as well as furthering CIAP’s mission to provide comprehensive, individualized technical assistance to tribal governments, tribally designated housing authorities, tribal non-profits, and other tribal partners both in the planning, funding, and construction of affordable housing, and supporting the expansion of community development within California tribal communities.

Through technical assistance (TA) and internal advocacy, the HCDS I, Tribal Affairs builds the capacity of HCD staff to implement AB 1010’s inclusion of tribes in HCD’s funding programs by establishing and updating department procedures with program staff, and recommending changes to program requirements that remove barriers to tribal participation and balance department legal requirements.

The HCDS I, Tribal Affairs will support documentation of implementation efforts, ensure complete data on tribal awards, TA, tribal outreach and engagement. This position supports department communication of CIAP implementation progress and facilitates outreach and engagement with California Native American Tribes. This role supports change management initiatives, while broadening our housing work to actively be inclusive of tribes and coalitions across the state.
