The mission of the Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD) is to ensure that all communities in Oakland are healthy, stable, and thriving by creating economic opportunity for all Oaklanders and equitable conditions to build intergenerational wealth. The EWDD Deputy Director (Business Development Manager) will lead the Business Development Division, oversee the update and implementation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy, and help position the City to harness business growth and attract new investment while expanding opportunities for local small businesses to close race and gender disparities in business ownership and revenue.

As the City emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic and looks to recovery, Oakland is uniquely positioned - in terms of values and opportunity – to chart a course for equitable economic development. The Deputy Director, Business Development Manager will play a key role.
