We have been in operation for over forty years and are in the midst of a gradual shift from a small business to a medium sized business. This means that we simultaneously benefit from having developed a relationship-oriented company culture over the years while evolving and implementing systems, processes, and structures to support the growth and evolution as a business. WRA is an employee-owned company, and we are invested in long-term high-quality professional experiences for all of our staff.

WRA’s environmental planning team prepares environmental documents that enable habitat restoration, climate resiliency, public access, and vital water resource infrastructure projects to proceed. We are looking for an Assistant Environmental Planner to prepare CEQA and NEPA documents for a diverse mix of clients and project types. This is an entry level position. The person in this role will work closely with, and under the direction of a Senior Environmental Planner and/or a supervisor.

The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the pandemic, employees are asked to work from home but once we reopen our offices, we expect you to be based out of one of our Northern California offices (San Rafael, Petaluma, or Emeryville) with the ability to work from home periodically.

In this role, you will:
-Assist with managing specific project tasks relevant to the CEQA planning process
-Participate on an as-needed basis in field work with senior oversight
-Lead research efforts in support of background information for various CEQA documents as assigned (i.e. CEs, IS/MNDs, EIRs)
-Take ownership over assigned resource sections of CEQA documents with minimal supervision
-Proactively pursue training opportunities, mentorship, guidance, and relevant job skills
-Have an understanding of current CEQA and NEPA planning laws and practices
-Develop an understanding of project management applications (e.g., resource planning, budget monitoring)
-Develop the ability to produce final CEQA and NEPA documents, including completing noticing requirements in accordance with CEQA and NEPA.
Contribute to CEQA and NEPA document templates in association with the Technical Team
-In consultation with subject-matter experts, advise project managers on technical issues that may require changes in scope and additional fees
-Support proposal efforts to generate new business
-Other duties as assigned

To be successful in this role, you will need:
-A Bachelor’s degree in land use, urban, regional, or city planning, community planning, or environmental studies
-1-2 years of professional experience
Self-awareness, the ability to self-regulate, and a growth mindset
-A desire and ability to work in a team environment
-Experience preparing CEQA and NEPA requirements
-Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and their Google Suite counterparts (Docs, Sheets, Presentations)
