ULI–the Urban Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 45,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines working in private enterprise and public service.

ULI district councils deliver the Institute’s mission at the local level by providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to give back to the community. With over 2,100 members across the Bay Area, ULI San Francisco (ULI SF) represents one of the Institute’s largest district councils and is the preeminent local organization focused on creating and sustaining communities through wise land use, development, and redevelopment decisions.

The closely knit and high-performing team of five people works directly with our members, who include high-level business professionals, public officials, corporate executives, and senior members of the real estate and land use community, to help facilitate and move the needle on issues that are most important to ULI SF.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Associate role is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for real estate and land use and engaging people and creating a meaningful and positive member experience at an influential and well-respected education and research institute.

The Senior Associate works closely with the Executive Director, ULI SF staff, and committee members to implement the organization’s strategic plan, support member-based committees, advance marketing and communications plans, and execute program and event logistics.

The Senior Associate will be part of the team that focuses on and supports our Young Leaders Group, Housing the Bay Initiative, marketing and communications, and other programming committees and events.

The ideal candidate is a hardworking, proactive, and innovative person with strong organizational skills, project management experience, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to multitask and respond to situations quickly. Experience managing meetings and working with volunteer members is preferred. It is imperative that the Senior Associate be friendly and genuinely interested in the needs of our members.

We are currently working remotely and plan to resume in-person, outdoor events in September (other events will continue to be held virtually). Attendance in person at our office and at events will be required at that time.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Young Leaders Group (YLG)

The Senior Associate will manage ULI SF’s Young Leaders Group (YLG), which is all ULI SF members under the age of 35 (which accounts for over 25 percent of ULI SF’s total membership). Responsibilities include:

Management of the YLG Steering Committee (and subcommittees), which holds meetings and plans and executes a variety of events, programs, and initiatives throughout the year.
Attending all committee meetings and events and handling logistics before, during, and after each event (note: some evening events required).
Helping guide the programming aspects of YLG events by working with committee members to identify speakers and align the content with the program of work of ULI SF.
Implementing Young Leaders professional development programs, such as the Young Leaders Mentorship program and Development 360.
Marketing and Communications

The Senior Associate will work closely with the Executive Director to advance awareness and influence of ULI SF. Responsibilities will include:

Implementing a marketing and communications plan.
Creating and managing the delivery of communications initiatives, including but not limited to newsletters, email blasts, press releases, and the district council annual impact report.
Managing and updating the ULI SF website and supervising social media accounts.
Generating metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications plans and initiatives.
Other Committees and Initiatives

ULI SF programs and events are our most outward-facing activities at the district council, with over 60 to 70 occurring each year. The Senior Associate will work as part of the team that manages and supports several member-based committees (in addition to YLG), focused on professional development and delivering a high-impact membership experience for all members. This will include supporting ULI SF’s flagship Housing the Bay Initiative, which involves managing multiple subcommittees and events throughout the year in addition to an annual, full-day summit. Responsibilities include:

Committee support, including meeting coordination and updating work plans.
Helping guide the programming aspects of the events by working with committee members to identify speakers and align the content with the program of work of ULI SF.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Housing the Bay planning team and playing a strong coordination role in executing a full-day conference with 30-plus speakers, 400-plus attendees, and numerous sponsors and partners.
Ensuring a positive member experience from welcome through ongoing engagement and retention.
Developing, managing, and improving internal systems to streamline the delivery of dozens of events annually.
