Dyett & Bhatia has a national practice preparing zoning regulations. Recent clients include small cities to large ones, such as Portland (OR) and San Diego. We are looking for a planner with significant experience in code writing to be part of our dynamic team, and potentially assume firm-wide leadership for zoning. This is a unique opportunity for someone with demonstrated prior experience in code writing and interest in zoning.

The successful candidate will lead and manage zoning assignments, which include comprehensive new citywide regulations or those with a specific focus – such as station areas, downtown, signs, parking, subdivisions, sustainable development or form-based codes. Candidates must enjoy zoning work and have a solid grasp of legal and technical underpinnings of zoning. Experience in administering zoning and development regulations, design expertise, and understanding of built form is desirable. We are interested in candidates with exceptional writing and analytical skills, who can effectively interface with clients and communicate in public settings.

Candidates must possess a Master of City Planning or a JD, with minimum five to seven years’ experience in writing or administering zoning. Additional experience is desirable.

Hiring level is open, and we welcome resumes from candidates with significant experience; salary is unlikely to be a constraint for the right candidate.
