The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Researcher, Community Development to join our Community Development (CD) team. As Senior Researcher, you will conduct and disseminate practitioner-friendly research on climate resilience as well as other topics within our department’s key priority areas of Healthy and Resilient Communities, Thriving Labor Force, and Inclusive Financial System. Our ideal candidate is a creative and motivated researcher with practical work or lived experience addressing key issues facing low-income communities and communities of color.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Initiate and conduct applied and policy-relevant quantitative research on climate resilience and other priority topic areas
• Conduct independent research and provide research support to department efforts
• Develop blog posts, summary briefs, videos or other collateral materials to disseminate research
• Establish research partnerships with a diverse set of internal (SF Fed) and external partners
• Collaborate with broader team across the district to source ideas and disseminate research findings
• Keep a pulse on emerging issues in the CD field
• Coordinate and participate in internal and external conferences to disseminate research and ideas
• Build internal forums and opportunities for sharing community development research with SF Fed staff and leadership
• Contribute to Federal Reserve System Community Development initiatives
• Other projects as assigned


Requirements:
• Master's degree or PhD in public policy, social work, economics, geography, public health, data science, or related subject area
• Typically requires six or more years of confirmed experience in community development, government, finance, research, or related field; with PhD, requires with two or more years of work experience in community development, government, finance, research, or related field
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a wide range of community and economic development issues, including: climate resilience, racial equity, healthy communities, community-engaged research, structural barriers to employment.
• Demonstrated experience initiating and conducting independent quantitative and qualitative research projects
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills
• Strong data analysis skills and experience with data analytics software (e.g. SAS, STATA, R), big data, GIS mapping, survey techniques
• Excellent attention to detail as well as problem solving, critical thinking, writing, and editing skills
• Experience working with a wide range of community development partners, ranging from banks, foundations, government, nonprofits, CDFIs
• Demonstrated public speaking and facilitation skills
• Excellent collaboration and relationship building skills
• Experience with a variety of data sources such as Census, American Community Survey, and others
• Comfort working independently with minimal direct supervision
• U.S. Citizenship or a Green Card Holder with the intent to become a U.S. Citizen is required
• Willing and able to travel up to 25%
