The City of San Mateo Community Development Department is recruiting two (2) Planning Interns. You’ll be joining a talented team in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment dedicated to serving the San Mateo community. The Community Development Department’s Planning Division provides a broad range of services, including review of applications for new development and long-range planning.

This paid part time internship will involve supporting a variety of activities and assignments through research, and performing duties and responsibilities related to the daily functions of the Planning Division. Essential job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: assisting customers at the public counter/virtual counter, responding to zoning inquiries, assisting with current and long-range planning projects, design review, research and special assignments, community outreach, and other related duties as assigned.

Graduates and students currently enrolled in a college or university, in the fields of Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field, are encouraged to apply. Individuals with an interest in urban planning or local government are preferred.

Recruitment will close by December 4, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. All applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications. Qualified candidates will be contacted for a virtual interview, which is expected to take place the week of December 7 – 11, 2020.
