The Overhead Wire, an urban planning media company based in San Francisco California, is hiring for a part-time paid internship. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and self-directed individual with interest in the fields of transportation, urban planning, geography, city issues, and urban ecology/ the environment. The position is part time and perfect for students with evenings available Sunday through Thursday.

The Intern will be responsible for updating news and information on theoverheadwire.com news site, posting articles and links to social media daily, writing summaries for articles, and supporting daily newsletter production.

Though temporary as we expect our interns to get full time jobs after graduating, this position will offer room for growth in responsibility while also increasing knowledge of city programs and issues from around the country. No travel is expected for this position; and the intern can work wherever they choose using their own computer. The job will be between 10 and 15 hours a week, 2 hours a day in the evenings from Sunday to Thursday.

Primary Responsibilities
• Coordinate with Overhead Wire Staff to Update News Stories on TheOverheadWire.com
• Help with outreach and promotion of the website and newsletter properties through new media
• Collect information from publication sources and summarize news stories weekly
• Help create show rundowns for weekly Mondays at The Overhead Wire podcast show

Qualifications:
• Completed undergraduate course work in Geography, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Public Policy or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; including but not limited to headline writing
• Demonstrated self-motivation
• Proven time management skills
• Proven interest in cities and urban systems
• Proficiency with WordPress or similar blogging systems
• Familiarity with Twitter, social media

Wage and Benefits
The position is temporary and will be part time with a minimum of 10 hours per week and up to 20 depending on funding availability. Position will be paid on an hourly basis, and will offer a competitive wage commensurate with experience. Intern will be responsible for own benefits and taxes as this will be a contract position.
