The City of Burlingame’s Community Development Department has an immediate opening for the position of Economic Development Specialist to work approximately 30 hours per week. The Community Development Department consists of the Planning Division and the Building Division; together, both divisions are responsible for administering policies and regulations governing development on private property within the city. The Community Development Department staff works closely with other City departments and with City commissions in serving the citizens on a daily basis and planning for the City’s future.

Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Economic Development Specialist is responsible for the performance of moderately complex technical and professional functions related to the coordination, marketing, implementation, and monitoring of various Economic Development programs and special projects. The incumbent will identify opportunities for economic growth; develop programs and actively implement Economic Development strategies, including business retention and attraction programs; and provide outreach to business owners, associations, districts, property owners, and developers regarding economic development matters.
