SD SEED, a community nonprofit in San Diego focused on supporting the local workforce, promoting a sustainable and healthy environment, and organizing strong communities, is seeking a full-time research analyst to take a leading role in the tracking and analysis of new development and construction projects in the region. The research analyst will also assist the nonprofit in engaging in the development review process.

Responsibilities

Identify all new proposed development projects in the City of San Diego and other cities in San Diego County, compile research regarding these proposed projects, and enter all relevant information into in-house database.
Continuously track and update project information, submit public records request for all projects’ filing and hearing dates, and routinely visit planning department offices to review project files.
Attend public meetings (administrative hearings, CPG/CPC, city council) relating to projects and provide public comment as appropriate.
Analyze a project’s effects and impact on the local community and provide reports to Executive Director and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

At least two (2) years of experience in urban planning, land use, civil engineering, environmental protection, general contracting, or community development.
Keen familiarity with the planning, entitlement, and permitting processes and procedures of the City of San Diego and Civic San Diego.
Good interpersonal skills.
A commitment to environmental justice, skilled workforce development, and community improvement.

Helpful but not required:

Knowledge of the planning, entitlement, and permitting processes and procedures in other cities in San Diego County.
Knowledge of CEQA and local zoning laws.
Comfortable with public speaking.
A background in community organizing.
A desire to make a difference in your community.
