Opportunity to gain valuable experience in database management and the PBID renewal process; connect with economic development professionals & city staff within Berkeley

The Downtown Berkeley Association (DBA) is an independent nonprofit organization in charge of the Downtown’s Property-Based Business Improvement District (PBID), representing 187 property owners and approximately 680 of their merchant and business tenants.

An intern is needed to assist with Downtown Berkeley database management and analysis in preparation for the PBID renewal in 2017.

Responsibilities would include the following:
- Updating the property owner database – verifying owner contact information and square footage to ensure a complete recording of all current and potential Downtown properties
- Data entry and analysis of property data
- Conduct merchant outreach and coordinate merchant participation in Downtown events and co-marketing opportunities
- Website administration – help update Downtown Berkeley online calendar of events
- Supporting DBA staff as needed in policy research, marketing initiatives & general office administration

Requirements: Intern would need to be available for such tasks early June-August, 10-20 hours per week. The internship can start earlier than June and be extended through end of October, if desired. Scheduled hours can be flexible.

Job Qualifications:
Proficiency in MS office is required. Experience in database management and analysis a plus. A candidate must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills. We are seeking an individual who is tech savvy, and is adept at learning quickly. We are seeking an individual who: takes initiative, is resourceful, persistent, attentive to detail, organized, and who has a strong desire to learn. The ability to be both thorough and efficient in completing projects is required. Candidates should be passionate about Downtown revitalization, economic development and helping make Downtown Berkeley a vibrant city center.
