The Public Health Institute is seeking a temporary, part time Health Equity and Housing Intern to work with the California Health in All Policies (HiAP) Program. The duration of this position will be for 10-12 weeks from May to September 2015 and is located at California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) offices immediately north of Sacramento, CA. The position will work under the supervision of PHI’s HiAP Task Force staff, in partnership with a senior HCD manager who will also provide mentoring.

The primary project will be to develop a web-based resource clearinghouse of materials and tools to inform and engage stakeholders about issues related to housing, air quality and public health. This project will support the HiAP Task Force’s Housing Siting and Air Quality Workgroup (aka Workgroup), which includes staff representation from the California Department of Public Health, HCD, the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, Air Resources Board, and Caltrans. The Workgroup seeks to balance policy objectives promoting equitable transit oriented development and affordable infill housing development while minimizing exposure of such residents to near-roadway air toxics.

The desired candidate for this position is a web/media savvy student or recent graduate in communications, public health, city/regional planning, public policy or a related field, interested in supporting integration and promotion of State health and housing policy objectives.
