Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is seeking a part-time contract professional to manage the Indicators Report project. Position available immediately.

Hours/Terms of Employment:
-Contract position without benefits.
-$30 – $40 per hour depending on experience with hours not to exceed 800.
-Engagement from present to November 30, 2015.

Responsibilities:
The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating the Sustainable San Mateo County 2015 “Indicators for a Sustainable San Mateo County” report, also known as the Indicators Report. The Program Manager also acts as editor and is responsible for ensuring all elements are written in a consistent style that adheres to generally accepted style guides.

Specific duties include:
-Providing overall project management, including recruiting volunteers, formatting/updating format and guidelines for researchers, coordinating indicators researchers’ submissions, and verifying sources and correct uses of information.
-Editing each indicator and all other parts of the report, submitting a draft for review by Indicators Committee, and responding and resolving comments in a final version.
-Research, write and edit portions of the report including the Introduction and Summary, and sections prepared by volunteers. -Review and edit the City Reports, to be researched, written, and edited by volunteers.
-Work with SSMC staff to format and upload indicators report onto SSMC website
-Work with chart and graphics designers to ensure consistent, clear and attractive layout.
-Coordinate the three 2015 Indicator Report public launches that bring together stakeholders and topical speakers.
-Update Research Guides for 2016.
-Participate in the Indicators Committee and other meetings.
-Identify refinements and additional indicators to enhance value, and implement as appropriate.
-Participate in public forums where findings and issues are presented and discussed with community leaders.

The Program Manager acts as project leader, ensuring the report progresses from inception to completion and actions are taken to mitigate any obstacles to completion. The Manager from time to time is a public face of SSMC. The overall goal for the Manager is to meet the project deadline and to deliver a high-quality report for web publication.

Skills/Experience:
-Bachelor degree in related field required, Masters preferred
-Minimum 5 years professional experience
-Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate the activities of a diverse team of people, experience in managing volunteers a plus.
-Experience with primary research, collecting and analyzing wide ranging data sources, and writing reports of similar scope and size.
-Writing and/or editing experience within a web publishing setting.
-Familiarity with style guides, and understanding of style editing, or an ability to assimilate such information independently.
-Ability to research and write sections of the report.
-Understanding and familiarity with sustainability issues, specifically as they relate to San Mateo County and generally to the San Francisco Bay Area.
-Expertise in the use of MS Word and Excel.
-Preference for candidates able to support web publishing and/or design work.
