COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Planner I: $5,198 – $6,319 per month

Planner II: $5,710 – $6,941 per month

Monthly contribution towards benefits up to $1,030 per month.

THE POSITIONS

The Planner I/II will provide the Planning Division with a variety of professional planning functions including technical reviews of development, land use applications and zoning matters. The incumbents provide advice and information to assist the public, developers, the business community and City staff with related matters. The positions are responsible for assisting in the preparation and review of environmental documents and making recommendations on special studies. The Planner I/II will prepare and present information and make recommendations to applicable commissions, City Council and staff. The Planner II classification is distinguished from the Planner I as the latter handles less complex assignments under closer supervision. THE IDEAL CANDIDATES

The ideal candidates will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Planning work and be familiar with requirements and compliance with local, state and federal codes and regulations. The individuals will possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the ability to explain regulations and procedural requirements. The incumbents are expected to produce professional quality staff reports and presentations to various hearing bodies. The successful candidates will embrace technology and be comfortable working with various software systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, and Adobe Acrobat. The individuals will be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, often under tight deadlines. The incumbents are expected to have a high degree of thoroughness and accuracy in performing research and the required duties of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PLANNER I:

Experience: Some directly related planning experience.

Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, regional planning, or a related field.

PLANNER II:

Experience: Two years of professional planning experience.

Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, regional planning, or a related field.
