About the Opportunity
Greenbelt Alliance is looking for a passionate and personable urbanist to become the newest member of the Public Square team. Public Square combines our new, innovative online engagement tool (publicsquare.org) with creative, on-the-ground community outreach, making it easier for residents to address place-based issues in their communities. You will promote Public Square at community meetings, neighborhood associations, and in public space. You will also provide community management support on the Public Square online tool. Work for this initiative and position will be completed in San Francisco and/or Mountain View.

This position requires at least a 20 hour/week commitment for three months. You are expected to adhere to a regular schedule, but since the work includes interfacing with community members, there will be significant evening and weekend work. To maximize impact and geographic reach, access to a bicycle or car is preferred.

Responsibilities
• Organizing events to publicize our online engagement tool

• Presenting to community groups and local stakeholders

• Encouraging positive, solution-oriented dialogue on our online engagement tool

• Coordinating social media promotion of online engagement tool

• Helping to incorporate Public Square into our work on the El Camino Real corridor

• Assisting Public Square staff as needed to meet project goals and deadlines

You will report to the Public Square Project Manager and will work with other staff as needed.

Qualifications
Greenbelt Alliance is seeking someone knowledgeable in urban planning issues, particularly placemaking and public participation. You have community outreach experience, strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, and a friendly, professional demeanor.

Benefits
Though this position is unpaid, it is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the growing placemaking and online engagement ecosystem. You will meet community leaders and elected officials, navigate local development, transportation, and environmental issues, while developing a network of contacts and references in the field. When applying for future jobs, you will be able to point to tangible results from your work and describe a discrete project that you led.
Travel reimbursement is available if you are working more than 30 hours a week and can demonstrate financial need.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to Uri Pachter, Project Manager, at upachter@greenbelt.org and place “Public Square Placemaking Volunteer Internship” in the subject line. Applications will be evaluated as they arrive; the position is open until filled.
Greenbelt Alliance values a diverse workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. People of color, women, people of all sexual orientation, trans and gender non-conforming people, and individuals of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
