Marstel-Day, LLC, an environmental consulting firm, seeks an entry-level Researcher or Researchers for its Oakland, CA office. This is a full-time position in which the incumbent will support mid-level staff, senior staff and planning staff on a variety of projects. Work requires incumbent to apply independent judgment in managing priorities and coordinating work activities to meet established deadlines.

Primary Duties and Capabilities include:
Will assist Company mid-level and senior staff in responding to client generated statements of work for task/delivery orders and preparing deliverables; will apply research techniques and methods, as directed by senior staff, in the investigation and solution of conceptual, planning, design, or implementation problems; will support senior staff in initial evaluations of existing procedures, processes, techniques, models, and/or systems; will perform data and database management for specific projects. Support may also include general research, data collection, monitoring social and conventional media, and preparing drafts of sections of reports and analyses. Principle areas of focus for an individual researcher incumbent would be supporting the development and execution of stakeholder communication, outreach and engagement strategies.

Qualifications: Applicants must:
• Have a strong commitment to a conservation ethic, a strong desire to identify and support strategies for natural resource conservation, and a commitment to use green best management practices in the performance of work.
• Possess strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Have sound judgment, and the ability to work with teams or independently
• Possess strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and SharePoint.
• Have at least one year of research-related employment (internships or significant research projects associated with advanced course work in a related field will count toward this time requirement).
• Have completed (or will complete before being employed by Marstel-Day) all requirements for a BA/BS degree, maintaining an overall 3.4 or higher GPA.
o A Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in environmental science or environmental policy, natural resources, military policy, urban planning, or other related fields is a plus.

The incumbent must:
• Be eligible to work in the United States (a DHS Form I-9 must be completed by the selected candidate and will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for verification of eligibility to work through E-Verify).
• Submit to and pass a company criminal background check, if selected for the position. This is an ongoing contingency even after being hired.
• Currently live in, or be willing to relocate to, a designated HUBZone (see www.sba.gov/hubzone/ for more information) (a relocation allowance may be considered).

Essential Functions Description:
The incumbent will work in an indoor, climate controlled work station or office, occasionally be required to travel between various work stations and/or offices to coordinate work, may be required to attend public meetings, staff tours of the installation and go on field trips in the surrounding area, and may undertake airline travel to professional development or staff meetings off site. Incumbent will be required to frequently organize and coordinate schedules, analyze and interpret data, engage in fast-moving problem solving, communicate with the public, craft written communication, including use of e-mail and other electronic reproduction of words, graphs, data and documents. Incumbent will be required to frequently use and be proficient with computers, telephones and mobile communication devices, copy machines and printers.

Salary and Benefits:
The company will pay a competitive salary commensurate with the incumbent’s level of education and experience between $36,000 and $45,000. The Company will also provide the incumbent access to a 401k plan, healthcare plan, disability and life insurance, paid leave, and other benefits.
