Position: Community Planning Researcher

Work schedule: Work to be completed Summer-Fall 2014. The Planning Researcher will complete tasks on a project-by-project basis, working ~20 hours per week. A supervisor will be available to answer any questions.

Compensation: $25/hour

Organization: The TODCO Group is the nonprofit community development corporation for San Francisco’s dynamic South of Market Neighborhood. For 40 years we have been fully engaged in SOMA’s many Civic/ urban/ social/ economic planning issues and initiatives. Our summary Mission Statement is: South of Market Neighborhood Builders.

TODCO Group is currently refining the Central SOMA Community Plan, available on the web at www.todcocentralsomacommunityplan.org, for the neighborhood between Sixth Street and Second Street and Market Street and Townsend Street. The Planning Researcher will assist with tasks related to this Plan. Additionally, the Planning Researcher will assist with tasks related to planning matters and research for the SOMA neighborhood at large.

Tasks: Specifically, the Planning Researcher will:
•Complete field work to classify land use in Central SOMA.
•Photograph and record neighborhood locations.
•Attend meetings related to the Central Corridor Plan, Moscone Expansion Project, Planning Commission, etc. and report back.
•Complete additional data collection and tasks as needed and as time allows.

Skills: Familiarity with data collection and mapping techniques is required. Interest in community building, mitigating displacement, pedestrian issues, and the SOMA neighborhood a plus.
