LSA, a multi-disciplinary environmental planning firm with an office in West Berkeley, seeks an Intern with an avid interest in the fields of land use, environmental review, and urban planning. As an Intern, you will be exposed to a diverse array of interesting development projects throughout the Bay Area and will be mentored by senior staff with many years of private and public sector experience. The Intern will primarily provide support for environmental review projects (i.e., CEQA and NEPA documents). Under the direction of senior staff, the Intern will conduct research and site surveys; compile and analyze data (e.g., demographic, public utilities, public services); and draft technical memos, and/or topical sections of environmental review documents. Some assistance with inputting data for traffic, air and noise analyses may also be needed.

We are seeking an individual with the following skills and interests: excellent research, writing and verbal communication skills; basic competency with Microsoft Word and Excel; interest in planning, development, and environmental issues; multi-disciplinary background (with at least some college-level coursework in an environmental/planning field); ability to work independently and efficiently; and GIS/graphics skills a plus.

LSA provides multi-disciplinary land use and environmental planning services. As planners and environmental analysts, we are active in all aspects of community development, land use planning, and public involvement. As technical specialists, we provide expertise in transportation, air quality, noise, biological resources, water quality, hazards, and cultural resources.

The Berkeley office of LSA focuses on CEQA/NEPA documentation, land use planning, and contract planning services for municipal clients. We are a congenial office of professionals and support staff located in West Berkeley.

Pay will be commensurate with experience. The position will initially be for part- or full-time work, starting in Summer 2014, with the potential for extension.
