The urban design and planning summer intern is a full-time 12 to 16 week position working closely with Asakura Robinson’s planning staff on a number of planning processes. The position will be based in Austin, Texas. Plans currently under development include mobility, bicycle, pedestrian and transit planning, urban design, community outreach and comprehensive plans at a number of scales, from neighborhood to regional. Projects often include document design and community engagement components. The position will be high responsibility and the intern will be working directly with clients on exciting and interesting planning projects around the state of Texas, and may also provide some support for international projects. Our studio is centrally located near the campus of the University of Texas in Austin’s West Campus neighborhood. We are located close to transit and are a Bicycle Friendly Business (we have showers, lockers and indoor bike parking). We are a small office that is joined together by our common beliefs and philosophy. In short, it’s a great place to work. Internships are paid. Stipend will be dependent on experience and will be negotiated following a successful application.

New in 2014, interns will also be encouraged to spend up to 1/4th of their time conducting research on a topic of interest to them that can be supported by the firm’s resources. This may include a topic related to bike/ped design, creative public engagement, public art, health, planning in underserved communities, transit planning, or other relevant topics. A report will be a final deliverable for the internship. Projects that can be expanded into thesis or dissertation topics are desirable (in other words, we want you to be researching something you have an interest in).
