Invest in Neighborhoods Internship
Invest In Neighborhoods (IIN) – San Francisco’s interagency neighborhood economic development initiative, led by the Office of Economic & Workforce Development – seeks an intern to assist with program development, program evaluation, communications, and other duties as assigned. The intern will be part of a 14-member team within a department of the City & County of San Francisco and will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience in local economic and community development. Note that this position is different from the “Invest in Neighborhoods Intern” advertised by the Planning Department.

About OEWD
The Office of Economic and Workforce Development's (OEWD) mission is to support the ongoing economic vitality of San Francisco. Under the direction of Mayor Edwin M. Lee, OEWD provides citywide leadership for workforce development, business attraction and retention, neighborhood commercial revitalization, international business and development planning. OEWD’s programs are responsible for strengthening San Francisco’s many diverse neighborhoods and commercial corridors, creating a business climate where companies can grow and prosper, and ensuring a continually high quality of life for all San Franciscans.

The Invest in Neighborhoods initiative, one of the 17 points of Mayor Lee’s plan for jobs and economic opportunity, provides focused, customized assistance to meet the specific needs of San Francisco’s neighborhood commercial corridors. Invest in Neighborhoods aims to strengthen and revitalize neighborhood commercial districts around the City by empowering community stakeholders and deploying resources from across multiple departments and nonprofit partners.

Responsibilities
• Track outcomes and develop communications materials for economic development programs including neighborhood services, Storefront SF, Biz Fit SF, Healthy Retail SF, loan programs, etc.
• Interview City staff and community partners to gather information regarding neighborhood economic development campaigns.
• Develop content for Invest in Neighborhoods website and newsletter.
• Gather, generate and upload visual media – including photos and videos – that illustrate the impact of neighborhood economic development programs.
• Manage IIN social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.), and track growth and impact of social media.
• Assist with public presentations to community groups on Invest in Neighborhoods.
• Assist with coordination with other City agencies around service delivery in Invest in Neighborhoods commercial districts.
• Develop and update print materials for neighborhood economic development programs.
• Attend biweekly Invest in Neighborhoods team meetings.
• Other duties as assigned based on qualifications.



Qualifications
• Working toward a degree (graduate degree preferred) in urban planning, economics, community development, communications, journalism, or other related field.
• Ability to think strategically and understand how communications and social media can be deployed in support of community revitalization efforts.
• Experience conducting research and developing communications materials.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of digital media software (e.g., Adobe creative suite) is preferred.
• Knowledge of video editing software (e.g., iMovie, Final Cut, or Windows Live Movie Maker) is a plus.

Position Details
• Duration: May 1 – September 30, with flexibility depending on the intern’s availability.
• Commitment of between 16 (minimum) and 32 hours / week.
• Position is currently planned as unpaid; however, more often than not OEWD interns are able to secure a permanent position, temporary paid employment, or a stipend.
