AC Transit is currently accepting applications for a Transportation Planner Intern from well-qualified graduate students enrolled in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related program. The Transportation Planner Intern will gain valuable hands-on planning experience under general supervision of a Senior Transportation Planner. The successful candidate will perform tasks and assist in project delivery and project management for the projects listed above, as well as other assignments, as needed.

Interns should be available to work 16-24 hours per week, during regular business hours (8am-5pm), for a period of 6-12 months. Interns may be permitted to work up to 40 hours per week during summer semester.

Example of Duties:
The Transportation Planning Graduate Student Intern will provide planning and administrative support for special projects and/or general operations, which may include:
• Assistance with general planning tasks, including conducting peer-review research, designing surveys, creating graphics and maps; and writing and reviewing technical memos;
• Assistance with public outreach, including drafting materials for stakeholders and facilitating public outreach events;
• Field work to take measurements and examine conditions; and
• Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program with a focus in transportation planning, urban planning, public administration, or equivalent.
• Not scheduled to graduate before December 2014.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Proficiency in ArcGIS, Google Earth, computer-aided drafting (i.e. SketchUp), and/or graphic design software (i.e. Adobe Suite, Inkscape) is desired.

Physical Requirements:
Must maintain the physical condition necessary to: (1) perform tasks in an office setting operating a personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment; and (2) possess physical mobility in order to conduct field studies.
