The Overhead Wire based in San Francisco California is hiring for a part-time paid internship. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and self-directed individual with interest in the fields of transportation, urban planning, geography, city issues, and urban ecology/ the environment. The position is temporary with an anticipated duration from March to September with possible continuation into the fall.

The Intern will be responsible for updating news and information on thedirecttransfer.com news site while also helping to create a daily newsletter about cities, doing outreach and promotion using new media, and membership coordination.

Though temporary, this position will offer room for growth in responsibility while also increasing knowledge of city programs and issues from around the country. No travel is expected for this position; and the intern can work wherever they choose. The job will be approximately 10 hours a week, 2 hours a day in the evenings from Sunday to Thursday.

Primary Responsibilities
• Coordinate with Overhead Wire Staff to Update News Stories on TheDirectTransfer.com
• Help Create Daily Urban Issues Newsletter based articles posted to The Direct Transfer
• Help with outreach and promotion of the website and newsletter properties through new media
• Cultivate new members and recipients of the newsletter
Qualifications:
• Completed undergraduate course work in Geography, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Public Policy or related field
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; including but not limited to headline writing
• Demonstrated self-motivation
• Proven interest in cities and urban systems
• Proficiency with WordPress or similar blogging systems
• Familiarity with Social Media such as Twitter, Linked In, Google +, Facebook

Salary and Benefits
The position is temporary and will be part time with a maximum of 10 hours per week. Position will be paid on an hourly basis, and will offer a competitive wage commensurate with experience. Intern will be responsible for own benefits and taxes as this will be a contract position.
