The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is a non-profit organization working to develop policy solutions to reduce conventional pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector. The ICCT promotes best practices and comprehensive solutions to improve vehicle emissions and efficiency, increase fuel quality and sustainability of alternative fuels, reduce pollution from the in-use fleet, and curtail emissions from international goods movement.

Position Details
The ICCT has an opportunity for a 12-week full-time summer internship position in San Francisco, CA. The primary focus of this position will be on identifying and applying new methods to assess the climate and health impacts of mobile source emissions on an international scale, and to identify best practice policies for their control. Particular emphasis will be placed on air quality within cities, secondary pollutants, and near-road exposures. The intern will become familiar with the latest research in this field, identify potential modeling tools, and apply them to policy-relevant questions regarding emissions from passenger cars, heavy-duty trucks, international shipping, and aviation.

Working under the direction of the ICCT’s Climate and Health program staff, tasks for this position include one or more of the following:

• Directed desk based research, including literature review;
• Technical analysis;
• Data collection;

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and progress towards a graduate degree in a technical discipline, such as environmental science, public health, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, physics or similar, or evidence of very strong performance in degree studies to date.
• Excellent writing, quantitative and analytical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Candidates should be able to show initiative and resourcefulness, and be able to self-start to complete defined tasks;
• Good understanding of and keen interest in environmental issues;
• Familiarity with air quality modeling tools would be helpful
Timeline and Stipend

The intern is expected to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer months. The internship will be paid; salary will be commensurate with experience and education - $1,900-$2,100 for undergraduate students, $2,100-$2,300 for graduate students and $2,300-$2,600 for doctoral students. The office location is in downtown San Francisco near the Montgomery Bart station.
