This Opportunity

San Francisco Transit Riders is the city’s member-supported, grassroots advocate for excellent, affordable, and growing public transit. We believe that empowering everyday transit riders to speak up for rider-first policies will bring us the world-class transit system we need for a livable, sustainable, and accessible San Francisco.

San Francisco Transit Riders is seeking a driven and enthusiastic project based Event Planner to support our signature Transit Month activities during the month of September. Beginning in 2021, we expanded Transit Week into a highly successful Transit Month, where we hold a series of events with partner agencies, community organizations, and corporate sponsors to highlight the importance of accessible and convenient public transportation. As in prior years, among other things, we are planning several panel discussions and a rally to celebrate local and regional public transit.

The project will be a 4-month involvement from June until the end of September.

Anticipated Responsibilities

• Lead in planning and execution for the different activities for the Transit Month 2022 (ride challenge, rally and press conference with City’s Board of Supervisors, transit hubs, panel conversations, riders awards event) from conception through completion in coordination with SFTR Board, staff, and volunteers
• Attend regular internal and external virtual and in person planning meetings
• Propose ideas to improve event quality
• Oversee logistics needs with partners including with media persons
• Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day
• Align and coordinate efforts with SFTR’s communications lead.

Qualifications

The following are required qualifications of candidates:
• Demonstrated success planning events
• Familiarity with San Francisco’s public transportation issues
• Undergraduate degree or higher (in progress or completed)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated creativity, problem solving skills, taking initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and customer service skills. Must be well organized and detailed oriented.
• Fluency in use of Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms)

The following other attributes, while not required, are also of interest and may be considered in the evaluation of candidates
• Relevant work experience or interest in transit advocacy or other related fields related to the built environment
• Graphic design and experience with Illustrator and Indesign
• Undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of transit justice looking for summer projects
