Departmental Overview
The UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Department (P&T) provides resources and programs for students, staff and faculty traveling between home, campus, and beyond. The Alternative Transportation Unit supports the programs and efforts between P&T’s partners, both public and private industry, to provide a multimodal, equitable, safe and sustainable campus. The TDM unit has addressed the mobility needs of the campus community such as rolling out Berkeley Moves! a trip-planning and Ridematching platform serving over 5,000 users and partnering with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) in providing over 4,000 free annual Bay Wheels bikeshare memberships to low-income students (Pell/Dream recipients). The future of the department will include a regional go-anywhere pass pilot with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and BART; launch of a scooter share program in the City of Berkeley; partnering with the City of Richmond on a microtransit and bikeshare pilot to serve the Richmond Field Station; and much more!
