Are you interested in shaping the next generation of policy for affordable housing in San Francisco? We are looking for someone who will take leadership in navigating the policy landscape in San Francisco in coalition with CCHO’s affordable housing and tenants-rights based agency. You will have strong analytical approach to shape and carry forward our policy advocacy. Ideally, you would bring your experience in affordable housing and land use organizing, policy and practice (ideally in San Francisco and the Bay Area). However, your interest, motivation and fit with CCHO is as important as hard experience. You would bring your informed assertiveness, willingness to educate and learn, flexibility in organizing San Francisco’s changing political landscape.

About the Position:
We are seeking a Policy Director! We are a small, fast-moving team of three staff for the CCHO coalition. You will support the Executive Director in building strategic relationships with community, labor, and
tenant ally organizations locally and across the region and state, as well as engage with city agencies,
policymakers, and elected officials, and participate in the development of ballot measure campaigns to advance CCHO’s housing and land use agenda. This is a position for someone who not only wants to shape the public conversation around housing and equity, but is committed to developing and implementing real policy solutions. The Council of Community Housing Organizations has a long and substantive track record winning on policies, funding and programs. We need a leader to continue that legacy in a new chapter going forward.
 
What You Will Do:
● Internal coalition management: facilitate Board and Member Committees, relations with Coalition member organization Executive Directors and other CCHO membership development
● Organizing: Leverage, build and maintain relationships in a political context, including relationships with allied organizations and coalitions (local, regional, and statewide), with elected officials and city agencies.
● Research & Policy Development: Shape Policy development, working closely with CCHO’s ED and Communications staff, including: Legislation, Policy and program analysis; data analysis; policy & program development; create policy explainers and infographics; help develop, support and coordinate CCHO’s housing slate Ballot campaigns every election cycle
● Communications: Shape CCHO’s messaging on key housing issues, and collaboratively write and edit a range of content from op-eds to longer thought pieces, participate in educational panels/forums and press conferences and briefings, working closely with CCHO’s Executive Director and Communications Director. You will be CCHO’s “expert” on housing policy and analysis

What You Bring:
● Three to five years of experience in housing and land-use policy
● Passion for housing justice and racial and economic equity
● Knowledge of affordable housing issues, including local San Francisco politics and policies around affordable housing, land use and development, tenants’ rights, displacement, and gentrification
● Building relationships with housing leaders, agency staff, elected officials, and journalists is key to moving actionable policy
● Skill in working within and expanding a narrative strategy based on housing justice, anti-displacement, and racial equity
● Project management skills and keen attention to detail (including maintaining consistency with an organization’s framing and branding), with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and ability to efficiently archive materials
● Be okay with working beyond regular business hours as necessary
● Very strong verbal skills in a variety of situations, including public speaking, and an ability to explain complicated ideas in everyday terms
● Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrated ability in writing, strong editing skills, and a collaborative approach to writing/editing
● Strong interpersonal skills, a love of relationship building, and an excitement to grow into the public face of CCHO
