JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a self-directed, energetic, civically-minded individual who wants to apply their project management, facilitation, and community engagement skills to further the work of CivicMakers and our clients.

The Project Manager / Senior Project Manager will lead multiple client projects simultaneously while working collaboratively with clients, stakeholders and other team members to achieve objectives and measurable outcomes. The Project Manager will report to one of the company partners and will delegate work to other team members.

The ideal candidate is a confident yet humble and supportive Project Manager who is comfortable managing multiple complex projects and serving as the direct point of contact to our clients. This role requires skill in meeting client needs while providing constructive feedback and course-correction, and continually learning and iterating while staying on top of long timelines and multiple deliverables. Excellent communication, prioritization and delegation skills are a must.

This is primarily a client-facing role with significant responsibility and autonomy for owning client projects with multiple contributing team members. Candidates should have a genuine desire to serve public sector clients on challenging projects with rewarding outcomes. Additionally, they should thrive in collaborative environments that require open communication, flexibility and teamwork.


WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You will directly manage multiple client projects in the areas of community engagement, facilitation and related topics (outreach and communications, participatory research, program evaluation, etc.). You will also contribute to business development activities in pursuit of new projects. In addition, you will be responsible for leading or contributing to several internal strategic projects focused on furthering our work at the leading edge of civic innovation. Below is a sampling of the kinds of tasks you can expect. These are subject to change and evolve, just like the nature of our field and our growing business.

Project Management
• Craft creative project approaches
• Lead and contribute to the design and implementation of project deliverables, such as: communications/outreach plans, stakeholder engagement strategies, workshop agendas, workshop facilitation, evaluation frameworks, interview protocols, journey maps, field research, desk research, summary reports or white papers, and so much more!
• Create and manage project work plans and timelines
• Create and manage project budgets
• Lead client and internal project meetings
• Delegate weekly tasks to teammates
• Contribute to other client projects and complete tasks as assigned

Sales/Business Development
• Help identify new business opportunities
• Contribute to and craft creative proposals for new work

Internal
• Lead or contribute to several internal strategic projects per year
• Develop and implement several professional goals (OKRs) each quarter
• Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings
• Mentor/coach junior team members
• Potential to grow into a people management position

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum
• You are located in the Bay Area, you can commute to San Francisco (post-COVID), and you are able to travel to client locations around Northern California and beyond
• At least 3 years prior experience managing large/complex public projects and/or 5 years prior experience in a consultant role supporting large/complex public projects
• At least 3 years experience with community engagement and facilitation
Fluent in Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese with confidence facilitating in language
• Experience managing project budgets, including time and hard costs, and comparing projected to actual costs
• High attention to detail and excellent prioritization skills
• Able to clearly articulate desired outcomes and map out sequence of milestones and deliverables to get there
• Desire to be proactive and deliver value for our clients
• Innate drive to leave things better than you found them
• An active listener with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent computer skills, including the ability to take quick and thorough notes
Proficiency with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.)
• Enthusiasm for reimagining public service delivery!

Preferred
• Prior work experience as a public sector employee
• Experience with climate adaptation and resilience planning and/or environmental justice advocacy/organizing
• Prior experience conducting community engagement in the public sector
• Experience with project management and task management software
• Moderate to advanced spreadsheet skills, including formulas
• Familiarity with human-centered design
• Experience with managing data in a CRM
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• MBA or MPA in a relevant field, such as Urban Planning, Community Development, Public Administration, Design Research, etc.

BENEFITS

Compensation
This is a full time exempt position at 40 hours per week, with a salary range of $70,000-$84,000 based on experience.

Location
This will be a remote position to start. However, you will eventually work out of our San Francisco office (at least part time) and need to be available to travel to client locations throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
