EDEN COMMUNITY LAND TRUST
PART-TIME, TEMPORARY POSITION: COMMUNITY COORDINATOR

This is a temporary position with an immediate start date and for an expected duration of six months (may be subject to change based on available funding).

Organizational Background
The Eden Community Land Trust (ECLT) is a fiscally sponsored project of the Oakland Community Land Trust, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The first convening for the ECLT was held in July of 2019 and ECLT is in the process of incorporating and establishing itself as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. ECLT will serve the Eden Area which includes the urban unincorporated communities of Alameda County (Ashland, Cherryland, San Lorenzo, Hayward Acres, Castro Valley), as well as the City of Hayward. The mission and purpose of the ECLT is to expand and preserve housing and economic development opportunities for the Eden Community. ECLT aims to acquire housing, land, and other community serving real estate with the intention of stewarding and ensuring permanent affordability of such acquisitions. ECLT does not control any property at this time. We work under the guidance of Oakland Community Land Trust who has over a decade of experience serving the Oakland community.

Role
The Community Coordinator will help to build relationships within and outside of ECLT, and will involve coordinating meetings, workshops, events, and gatherings that further the mission of ECLT. Administrative tasks, such as scheduling meetings, taking notes, and accomplishing meeting follow-up actions, will be an initial focus. It is expected that a key part of this role will involve a large volume of correspondence, email, and phone calls.


Responsibilities
The following is a list of responsibilities for this position.

Build Organizational Capacity
● Compile, develop and maintain thorough notes and reports on ongoing projects, priorities and organization deadlines.
● Provide administrative support for community mobilization efforts that advance ECLT projects and priorities.
● Work in partnership with ECLT board members and committees to achieve organizational goals.
● Work with ECLT board committees to develop strategies to engage residents and build community support.
● Perform other related duties and assigned special projects.
● Design popular education materials and translate existing materials.

Relationship Building
● Assist the ECLT board in building a base of community leaders.
● Build and maintain cooperative working relationships with community residents, nonprofit partners, and government agency staff.
● Work closely with community and service organizations within the Eden Area.
● Coordinate workshops that inform community residents on the community land trust model.

Education and Experience
● Possess a high school degree or GED.
● Commitment to social and economic justice, knowledge of issues impacting working class, immigrant, and indigenous communities.
● Knowledge of strategies and best practices in community building, outreach, community relations and capacity building. Strong consideration will be given to applicants with advocacy, community organizing, or community base building experience.
● Understanding of the basic tenets of community land trusts preferred.

Skills and Abilities
● Ability to work in an independent, organized, and confident manner; to be reliable, dependable and flexible; and to accept supervision, suggestions and feedback.
● Pay strong attention to detail and manage competing priorities effectively.
● Ability to travel around the Eden Area.
● Organizational skills required as well as a flexible schedule and hours may vary and include evening work.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred. We will consider applicants who are able to speak a second language commonly spoken in the area.
● Strong computer skills including intermediate MS Office skills, Google Apps, and internet research. Must have your own computer with video and microphone.
● Experience with Adobe software such as Photoshop/InDesign is a plus.

Physical Requirements
● Must be able to work remotely (phone and computer).
● Capable of the following extended activities: movement/travel between locations; creation and understanding of written materials, processing and participating in verbal communication (either directly or through an interpreter), and working in the same place for an extended period of time. Must also be able to access and utilize information in both printed and electronic format.

Compensation
The Community Coordinator is a temporary part-time hourly, non-exempt position (15-20 hours per week) and will be paid $18.00 per hour. The position is currently funded for approximately 6 months. The Community Coordinator position is expected to fulfill at least 15 hours of work per week and be available to work in the evenings and weekends. The Community Coordinator will be an employee of the Oakland Community Land Trust and will report to OakCLT’s Executive Director, with shared supervision by the ECLT Board of Directors.
