The City of Berkeley’s Building and Safety Division seeks an intern to support its hazard mitigation programs and special projects. Job duties will include:
• Assisting with the Soft Story Program (addressing earthquake vulnerabilities in multifamily housing) and other initiatives to strengthen Berkeley’s buildings.
• Assisting with the new Retrofit Grants program, funded by a grant from FEMA. This may include researching and photographing eligible buildings, developing program materials, and outreach to property owners.
• Special projects within the Building and Safety Division.

Good writing skills, basic photography skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, past experience working in an office, and an interest in advancing Berkeley’s Resilience Strategy are highly desirable. Graphic design and/or GIS skills a plus.

Preference for a graduate student, recent graduate, or junior/senior undergraduate.

Salary/Duration:
Salary is $17.94/hour with a maximum of 19 hours per week. (Salary may be increased up to $25.69/hour based on documented past experience.) The duration of the internship is 6 months and may be extended to 12 months. This position does not offer health or other benefits.
