The City of Pleasanton is seeking to hire a temporary Assistant Planner or Planning Technician on a full- or part-time basis that will be primarily responsible for providing assistance to development applicants at the front counter of the Community Development Department. The duration of this position is expected to be approximately 6 months, with the potential for extension.
The successful candidate will possess previous experience working the front counter in a Planning/Community Development Department and will be: detail oriented; proactive; responsive; timely; accurate; and solution-oriented. It is imperative that this candidate interact with the public courteously and tactfully, has excellent customer service and communication skills, and the ability to interpret Planning regulations and problem solve. Experience with permit tracking software is desirable.
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide general information to the public, development community and other government agencies pertaining to City planning and development policies, procedures and standards.
• Accept, review and recommend actions regarding various zoning related applications including those related to business licenses conformance.
• Process administrative design review, sign permit, parcel map and related applications; review applications for completeness, route to appropriate parties for comments, prepare public notice and prepare staff report.
• Review site development applications as assigned for compliance with appropriate zoning regulations and planning policies; prepare supporting comments.
• Prepare, maintain and update planning-related maps, files and records.
• Enter and retrieve information using a computer system.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Position Reports To: Planning Manager
Salary: Depending on Qualifications
Education/Experience:
BS/BA degree in planning or related field. Some experience in land use planning and/or regulations is strongly desired.

Position Type: Part Time Temporary – 3 days a week (Tuesday-Thursday preferred) for the foreseeable future; Full Time Temporary – 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) may also be considered
