“East Pleasanton | Progress. Planned.” is looking for a part-time paid intern to serve as a Project Ambassador, assisting in the design and community engagement efforts for an innovative, sustainable mixed-use neighborhood in the East Bay. We are seeking an outgoing and friendly students or recent graduates who are thoughtful and passionate about planning, housing, and development in the 21st Century. The ideal candidate will be both knowledgeable about planning and contemporary principles of placemaking and have a genuine enthusiasm for vigorous public engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Attend community events to share information and answer questions about the project;
• Assist with project open house events, answer questions and provide information to the public;
• Compile inquiries and assist development team with research into various aspects relating to planning and development issues;
• Follow up through phone and email outreach to interested community members;
• Schedule meetings and presentations with various community groups;
• Respond respectfully and effectively to sometimes difficult and sensitive public inquiries, criticisms and concerns;
• Assist with marketing and social media tasks and activities;
• Assist in the design of visual aids and presentations materials;
• Participate in regular team meetings and provide feedback on visitor comments and inquiries;
• Conduct market research as necessary;
• Provide on-the-ground community outreach, including attendance at community meetings and neighborhood association meetings, and in occasionally small information sharing events for small groups of interested citizens.

This position pays $17/hour plus approved expenses and will require a minimum of 15 hours per week. Although there is schedule flexibility, some nights and weekend hours will be required. Ability to attend meetings in various locations throughout the community will be necessary so reliable transportation (e.g. access to a bicycle or car) is required. Transportation costs will be reimbursed.
