The San Jose Downtown Association’s (SJDA) Property Based Improvement District / Street Life Internship is ideal for a candidate interested in gaining valuable project management and downtown beautification/public realm promotion experience.

SJDA provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced, fun, non-profit environment. This position allows interns a chance to work in a unique and creative atmosphere while gaining skills beneficial to a future career in urban design, community development and project/operations management.

The San Jose Downtown Association seeks an organized and passionate PBID intern with good organization and communication skills to join our fun and energetic team:

Assist with the implementation of SJDA’s Downtown Street Life Plan projects.

Assess maintenance needs of completed Street Life projects and downtown as a whole.
Attend various meetings with city staff and downtown business and community members.
Assist with program reports, including statistical analysis of PBID programs, examples include conducting the annual property owner survey and the downtown pedestrian count.
Assist with creating project budgets, develop work plans and scheduling meetings.
Create PowerPoint presentations and promotional material.
Assist with potential grant writing and reporting needs.
Necessary Qualifications:

Familiarity or willingness to learn general urban design, placemaking, or landscape design principles
Comfortable communicating with the diverse downtown community
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
MAC proficient – including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. Knowledge of Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) desired
Willingness to learn via hands-on, on-site experience
Ability to work independently, and willingness to take on a full range of tasks
Excellent communication skills
Schedule: 10-20 hours per week January – May 2016 (course-related requirements negotiable).

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship position, and therefore is not eligible to participate in company benefits, personal time off or paid holidays.
