The City of Oakland Strategic Planning Division is seeking an intern to help staff with long-range planning projects. On-going projects include the Downtown Specific Plan, the Local Hazard Mitigation Update, the Impact Fee Nexus Study, the Parklet Program, and the implementation of recently adopted Specific Plans among other projects. The internship provides a great opportunity to learn about long-range planning, policy development and City government. Interns will be expected to conduct research and data analysis and assist with preparation of community workshops, GIS maps, and graphics.
Skills and Abilities: Minimum qualifications include proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, along with strong graphic and mapping capabilities. Interns should be comfortable using ArcGIS, which would include, at a minimum, having skills in basic map design and experience performing attribute and spatial queries. Candidates should also know how to use programs in the Adobe Suite (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Photoshop); also familiarity with SketchUp is ideal.
Compensation: up to $16.27 per hour.

Availability: Interns should be available to work at least 15 hours per week during regular business hours. Days of the week are flexible. (Approximate internship start date: Beginning of September)
