RTC is hiring a part-time, temporary Program Coordinator to work with our Western Regional staff to support our trail development and policy program work, including but not limited to the following:

California Active Transportation Program:
RTC has been integrally involved in the Active Transportation Program (ATP), California’s largest trail funding program for trails, biking and walking projects. We are working with Caltrans on a statewide effort to evaluate the program and provide technical assistance. The Program Coordinator will work with the Western Region Director on contract management, ATP program evaluation and recommendations, and other deliverables.
Trail Collaborative and Policy Programs:
We are leading a regional effort to advance trail systems, called the Bay Area Trails Collaborative. The Program Coordinator will work with staff on partner coordination, communication and recruitment; meeting planning; report research and preparation; the organizing/implementing of a strategy to increase state and regional funding for trails; and the publicizing/implementation of trail use celebrations as part of our annual Opening Day for Trails program.
Advocacy Efforts:
This position will assist with our advocacy efforts in California and Washington State to increase funding for trails and active transportation by conducting policy research and partner outreach, and updating policy materials to support our regional and national policy goals.
Trail Planning and Development:
We regularly provide trail planning and implementation assistance to communities. The Program Coordinator will assist our Trail Development Manager with research and writing, community outreach and education, workshop planning, project and contract coordination, meeting logistics and related program support for our active projects, including the San Leandro Creek Trail and the Santa Cruz Coastal Rail-Trail. The Coordinator may occasionally assist with using GIS to create maps and do demographic or connectivity analysis.
Program and Organizational Management:
The Program Coordinator will help hire and train our interns; support financial management and fundraising efforts; and coordinate with our communications team to research/write stories for our blog, website and other publications.
This is a one-year position (may be extended, depending on funding), approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, beginning late July/early August 2015. The salary is $20/hour and does not include benefits.
